Investors have put $3 million into Armada Interactive, a mobile game studio founded last year by a group of developers that includes triple-A industry expats from studios like BioWare, Crytek and Remedy.
Armada is most notable for its talent lineup: its roster of founders includes former Crytek creative director Giuliano Cremaschi and Remedy Entertainment cofounder Samuli Syvähuoko, who previously helped launch Helsinki GameWorks in 2014.
That studio merged with fellow Finnish mobile game venture Next Games later that year, and now Next Games is one of the investors pouring money into Armada.
This is the latest in a lengthy string of Finnish mobile game startups; the region is a hotbed of high-profile mobile game development, with local powerhouse Supercell (Clash Royale, Clash of Clans) estimated by some to be the world’s most valuable mobile game studio.
Like Supercell, Armada is currently focusing on competitive multiplayer mobile game design; the studio aims to create a “synchronous PvP” game that is “easy-to-access but hard-to-master” and intended to be played and watched as an eSport.
