The Nintendo Switch 2 is beating expectations at Nintendo after selling over 10 million units worldwide in under four months.
As noted in Nintendo’s fiscal report for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025, the console has sold precisely 10.36 million units globally since launching on June 5.
Switch 2 software sales totalled 20.26 million units over that period—with Mario Kart World (a launch title that was bundled in with some hardware packages at launch) having sold 9.57 million copies.
Donkey Kong Bananza has delivered 3.49 million sales after launching on July 17.
It’s a bumper showing that has resulted in Nintendo upgrading its Switch 2 hardware and software sales forecast for the current fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.
The company now expects the Switch 2 to deliver 19 million hardware sales by the end of the fiscal year—up from the 15 million it had initially projected. Its Switch 2 software sales unit forecast has also been upgraded to 48 million units from 45 million units.
Nintendo looking to maintain Switch 2 momentum with launch of Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Looking at the company’s fiscal report in detail, half-year net sales increased by 110.1 percent year-on-year to 1.01 trillion yen ($6.6 billion). Operating profit increased by 19.5 percent to 145.1 billion yen ($944 million).

“Hardware sales increased significantly in this half-year period due to the launch of Nintendo Switch 2,” explained Nintendo. “The fact that Nintendo Switch 2 has a higher individual unit price than Nintendo Switch also contributed to the increase in net sales, and our dedicated video game platform business sales increased by 119.7 percent year-on-year to 1,066.1 billion yen.”
The company reported a year-on-year sales decline of 12.4 percent within its IP related business, mainly due to a decrease in revenue related to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Digital sales also decreased by 2.8 percent year-on year to 155.5 billion yen ($1 billion) due to factors including the impact of foreign exchange rates and a decrease in sales of download-only software.
Nintendo said it will strive to maintain momentum as we come to the end of the calendar year with the launch of titles such as Kirby Air Riders in November and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in December. The debut of Pokémon Legends: Z-A in October will also factor into the company’s next fiscal report.
Nintendo has upgraded its consolidated financial forecast with the Switch 2 flying high. The Japanese publisher now expects to report net sales of 2.25 trillion yen ($14.6 billion) and operating profit of 370 billion yen ($2.5 billion) when the fiscal year winds down.
