Peak, the co-op multiplayer game by Aggro Crab and Landfall, has surpassed 4.5M sales since its release on June 16.
As reported by The GameDiscoverCo newsletter, the game had sold around 3.5M copies by last Wednesday, indicated by Steam back-end unit sales. This means that the developers accrued another million in the past week alone.
Regarding actual activity, Peak continues to amass an average of 100,000 concurrent players on Steam daily. According to the devs, the median time played as of mid-last week was 3 hours and 53 minutes.
By June 26, Peak had achieved 2 million sales. In an interview, Aggro Crab studio head Nick Kaman spoke at length about the development of what was essentially a month-long game jam between Aggro Crab and Landfall. “Collaboration was very natural, which was something I had to get used to as someone who’s used to more rigorous production,” Kaman told Game Developer. “People would just add whatever felt important or funny on a given day to the game, but with everyone’s level of experience, there was a lot of trust in each other that those decisions made sense.”
Peak’s rapid ascent to sales success
Peak was announced and launched in the span of a week, and went on to sell 100,000 copies in 24 hours, before crossing its first million a few days later. Kaman has attributed the sudden peak in sales to both the existing audiences of the studios (with notable releases like Another Crab’s Treasure and fellow co-op game Company Warning), as well as a 38 percent launch discount, selling the $8 game for less than $5 instead.

“We thought if we were lucky it would eventually do half as well as Content Warning,” Kaman said last month. “We broke even in the first few hours. Now that a week has passed, we’re at 1.6 million copies. It’s absolutely bonkers and none of us expected it, we are freaking out. We knew we had a decent shot of success because of our platforms but this level of attention has been completely unprecedented for us. We’re attributing this win to the Power of Friendship.”
Previously, Content Warning sold 2.2 million copies and attracted 8.8 million players in two months. The co-op game by Landfall launched as a free-to-keep title for a full day, which led to 6.2 million downloads in 24 hours, as well as 200,000 concurrent users on Steam.
