Netflix intends to grow its Netflix Games roster to almost 50 mobile titles by the end of 2022.
According to a report from The Washington Post, which spoke with sources familiar with the streaming company’s plans, Netflix plans to continue exploring the world of games via mobile platforms and is targeting “great gains” in the future.
The company currently offers 17 titles — including Stranger Things: 1984, Card Blast, and Wonderputt Forever — to iOS and Android users, although they can only be accessed on those platforms by Netflix subscribers.
Netflix Games launched in November 2021, and since then the company has bolstered its development capabilities by acquiring high-profile studios including Next Games and Boss Fight Entertainment. The company also acquired Oxenfree developer Night School Studio in September last year.
According to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, speaking during a recent earnings call, the steaming company penned those deals to “build up the known-how and the creative chops to be able to make some really great gains” in the video game market.
Netflix’s game division is led by former Facebook and EA executive, Mike Verdu, who joined the company in July 2021.
